When we first started investigating this solution to high gas prices we figured it would cost a lot to make any kind of conversion. It turned out that just wasn't true. In total we spent a little over $200 including the plans to do the conversion.

We didn't figure that was too bad considering that we save about 44% on our fuel costs now. That works out to over $30 per week in savings and about a 7 week payback on our investment. We really wanted this to work out for us since gas prices are only expected to rise substantially in the future. It really is time for you to make you own hydrogen car.

Our next concern was whether or not any substantial mechanical skill was necessary to make this work. Thankfully not. If this project called for being a mechanic we would definitely have stopped right there. That's interesting because when we think of new technologies we usually think they will be complicated or beyond the capabilities of the average handyman or woman. Installing the hydrogen car device was a good day's work mind you.

The only thing we did was follow the plans carefully and make sure we had the parts on hand before we began. The parts are all easy to get too, and we actually picked them up locally.

The hydrogen electrolysis unit (big name, simple device) we thought would be the hardest to build but the plans showed us step by step with pictures how to put it all together. Not much harder than a Christmas morning assembly of your kids new toys. It was fun like Christmas too; the anticipation of saving money was great.

Before we started with this project we looked at a lot of cars with hydrogen fuel source and they were all so expensive and complicated. We are glad we chose this option.

The biggest problem came when we tried to fit all of the parts in our 1992 Toyota Corolla. Not much room under the hood on those things. We did it though and we now have a Toyota Hydrogen Car sitting in our laneway without the big price tag that comes with new units though. We built it ourselves, you can too.

We really think this new technology could revolutionize the way we drive and think about renewable energy. The car runs cleaner and we have seen the unit in a diesel truck too.
