Cobra CPI 875 800 Watt Power Inverter

By Eric Nguyen

I took a look around Amazon.com for awhile and found a winner, the Cobra CPI 875 Power Inverter. At a tad over $50 and supposedly providing 800 watts continuous, I was a little skeptical if the unit could actually perform. The reviews on the site said nothing of the unit's performance, however; they were mainly complaining about the product description. I already had cables and didn't care if they came with them or not, so I went ahead and purchased the unit. Luckily, I had Amazon Prime at my disposal and opted for $3.99 next day shipping.

I received the unit the next day, but unfortunately, electricity was still out all over the place. However, it was also a good thing since it gave me a chance to test out the unit. It is packaged in a black plastic carrying case and comes with the battery cables needed for the connection. Being that the unit is rated for 800 watts, you cannot plug this into your standard cigarette lighter because you'll be likely to blow fuses or overload your car's wiring. Instead, you must connect the unit directly to the car battery via the included battery cable clamps.

The Cobra CPI 875 features two 120v AC power connections and an additional 5v USB port. Among the first electronic items I tested were my 50″ Plasma TV, a DVR, and an Xbox 360. The TV came on just fine, but let out a loud buzzing sound coming from the power supply area. This is because the power inverter outputs a modified sine wave which can induce noise. The DVR and Xbox 360 all ran perfectly as well, no buzzing from these components. I got fed up with the buzzing from the TV and switched to an LCD monitor. This time, the buzzing was much quieter, but it was still there. I ran the LCD monitor, Xbox 360, and my laptop off of the inverter for a combined total of over 12 hours in 2 days.

The inverter held up fantastically and did not drain my 2 batteries as much as I thought it would. I was able to run an LCD, Xbox 360, and laptop for over 5 hours before my battery voltage got too low for my liking (11.5v). I could've gone longer, but I did not want to risk dead batteries in the morning when I needed to leave. The Cobra CPI 875 did not heat up much either, in fact, it was cool to the touch throughout its usage. As far as the performance goes, I can't say much more because it performed when I needed it to and that's what counts to me. I don't have any doubts that it will last and I look forward to using it more.

Selling Your Business - Deal Structure and Taxes

By Dave Kauppi Platinum Quality Author

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the importance of the tax impact in the sale of your business. As an M&A intermediary and member of the IBBA, International Business Brokers Association, we recognize our responsibility to recommend that our clients use attorneys and tax accountants for independent advice on transactions.

As a general rule, buyers of businesses have already completed several transactions. They have a process and are surrounded by a team of experienced mergers and acquisitions professionals. Sellers on the other hand, sell a business only one time. Their "team" consists of their outside counsel who does general business law and their accountant who does their books and tax filings. It is important to note that the seller's team may have little or no experience in a business sale transaction.

Another general rule is that a deal structure that favors a buyer from the tax perspective normally is detrimental to the seller's tax situation and vice versa. For example, in allocating the purchase price in an asset sale, the buyer wants the fastest write-off possible. From a tax standpoint he would want to allocate as much of the transaction value to a consulting contract for the seller and equipment with a short depreciation period.

A consulting contract is taxed to the seller as earned income, generally the highest possible tax rate. The difference between the depreciated tax basis of equipment and the amount of the purchase price allocated is taxed to the seller at the seller's ordinary income tax rate. This is generally the second highest tax rate (no FICA due on this vs. earned income). The seller would prefer to have more of the purchase price allocated to goodwill, personal goodwill, and going concern value.

The seller would be taxed at the more favorable individual capital gains rates for gains in these categories. An individual that was in the 40% income tax bracket would pay capital gains at a 20% rate. Note: an asset sale of a business will normally put a seller into the highest income tax bracket.

The buyer's write-off period for goodwill, personal goodwill, and going concern value is fifteen years. This is far less desirable than the one or two years of expense "write-off" for a consulting agreement.

Another very important issue for tax purposes is whether the sale is a stock sale or an asset sale. Buyers generally prefer asset sales and sellers generally prefer stock sales. In an asset sale the buyer gets to take a step-up in basis for machinery and equipment. Let's say that the seller's depreciated value for the machinery and equipment were $600,000. FMV and purchase price allocation were $1.25 million.

Under a stock sale the buyer inherits the historical depreciation structure for write-off. In an asset sale the buyer establishes the $1.25 million (stepped up value) as his basis for depreciation and gets the advantage of bigger write-offs for tax purposes.

The seller prefers a stock sale because the entire gain is taxed at the more favorable long-term capital gains rate. For an asset sale a portion of the gains will be taxed at the less favorable income tax rates. In the example above, the seller's tax liability for the machinery and equipment gain in an asset sale would be 40% of the $625,000 gain or $250,000. In a stock sale the tax liability for the same gain associated with the machinery and equipment is 20% of $625,000, or $125,000.

The form of the seller's organization, for example C Corp, S Corp, or LLC are important to consider in a business sale. In a C Corp vs. an S Corp and LLC, the gains are subject to double taxation. In a C Corp sale the gain from the sale of assets is taxed at the corporate income tax rate. The remaining proceeds are distributed to the shareholders and the difference between the liquidation proceeds and the stockholder stock basis are taxed at the individual's long-term capital gains rate.

The gains have been taxed twice reducing the individual's after-tax proceeds. An S Corp or LLC sale results in gains being taxed only once using the tax profile of the individual stockholder.

Selling your business - tax consideration checklist:

1. Get good tax and legal counsel when you establish the initial form of your business - C Corp, S Corp, or LLC etc.

2. If you establish a C Corp, retain ownership of all appreciating assets outside of the corporation (land and buildings, patents, trademarks, franchise rights). Note: in a C Corp sale, there are no long-term capital gains tax rates only income tax rates. Long-term capital gains can only offset long-term capital losses. Personal assets sales can have favorable long-term capital gains treatment and you avoid double taxation for these assets with big gains.

3. Look first at the economics of the sales transaction and secondly at the tax structure.

4. Make sure your professional support team has deal making experience.

5. Before you take your business to the market, work with your professionals to understand your tax characteristics and how various deal structures will impact the after-tax sale proceeds

6. Before you complete your sales transaction work with a financial planning or tax planning professional to determine if there are strategies you can employ to defer or eliminate the payment of taxes.

7. Recognize that as a general rule your desire to "cash out" and receive all proceeds from your sale immediately will increase your tax liability.

8. Get your professionals involved early and keep them involved in analyzing various bids to determine your best offer.

Again, the purpose of this article was not to offer you tax advice (which I am not qualified to do). It was to alert you to the huge potential impact that the deal structure and taxes can have on the economics of your sales transaction and the importance of involving the right legal and tax professionals.

Budapest Ferihegy International

Airport The airport is located 10 miles (16 km) southeast of the centre of Budapest, accessible by the major transport artery of Üllői út. Regular international flights at Ferihegy 2 Airport start from Terminal 2A or Terminal 2B.These two terminals very close to each other. Terminal 2A usually serves the national company (MALÉV), and Terminal 2B serves most other flight operators while Terminal 1 serves all low-cost airlines. Ferihegy airport has three main terminals (1, 2A, 2B) and a small one for general aviation (GAT) flights. A new large air cargo base is about to be built. Transfer between terminals 2A and 2B is convenient enough to be completed on foot. However the older Terminal 1 is farther away and must be reached via bus.

Terminal 1: the newly opened Terminal 1 serves all low-cost airlines. The terminal was recently renovated and opened up to the public in September 2005.

Terminal 2A: Terminal 2A was originally built exclusively for MALÉV Hungarian Airlines, but it now serves not only MALÉV, but its code-share airline partners as well. This modern, well-designed terminal replaced the original terminal in 1985.

Terminal 2B: although connected to Terminal 2A, it is referred to as a separate terminal, opened in 1997. It serves all of the other international flights and airlines not served by Terminal 2A.

How to get there:

By minibus similarly to all airports, Budapest Airport also operates a ‘shuttle service' called as ‘Airport Minibus'. Passengers are taken to the previously requested address by microbuses with eight to eleven seats. The drivers know Budapest and its traffic, including the simplest and fastest routes, very well. Who uses the Minibus can get into direct contact with the Airport and might obtain information about the required flights already during of the journey.

By metro and bus Budapest Airport is relatively well accessible also by Public Transportation Means. Passengers are taken by a direct bus service from Terminals 1 and 2, called the Bus 200 to Köbánya-Kispest metro terminal. The new service from BKV adjusts much better to the passenger traffic at the airport: it is larger so bigger luggage can be transported; it operates more frequently; and it operates for longer hours providing a link between the city and the airport even after midnight and at early dawn. Bus 93 operates from Terminal 1 to Kőbánya-Kispest Metro Station. By the 'blue' (3) Metro you can reach Deák Ferenc Square in the City in 20 minutes. Public Transportation Means can be used for a fare: the one-way through-ticket costs around HUF 185.

By taxi Taxis queue up at the arrival level of Ferihegy Airport 2A and 2B Terminals but the cars of the taxi company preferred by the passenger would arrive at the Terminal in 5 minutes. Taxi fares include VAT but exclude tip. Most taxi services apply 'transfer fares' which is a lump-sum fare used for taking passengers to a Budapest include VAT but exclude tip. Most taxi services apply 'transfer fares' which is a lump-sum fare used for taking passengers to a Budapest destination. For taxi numbers see Telephones section.

By car The Airport is well accessible by car from any point of Budapest. Ferihegy can be reached in 20 minutes from the City by the „Ferihegy High-Speed Road". By that high-speed road, separated by string barrier from public traffic, the Airport can be accessed practically unhindered and any obstacle might be expected under extraordinary circumstances only.

Cinemas

While Budapest has over 30 cinemas, only a very small percentage of films shown are Hungarian but be careful because Hungarians usually dub foreign films. Nevertheless you may find films in English. Check the Budapest Sun website or the various informative magazines available for free in the city.

How to Improve the MPG Or Your Jeep Cherokee SUV

By Mike Strawbridge Platinum Quality Author

While SUVs get a bad rap in the press these days about being not very fuel efficient, the Jeep Cherokee XJ is capable of getting quite good fuel economy. It may not match a Prius or a Civic but I would not try to take one of them off road either.

The first step in improving the fuel economy of the jeep is to make sure it is operating correctly. Ensure that all connections to the ECU are clean and properly connected. Also check all the ground wires.

There are at least three different computers used in the XJ series of Jeep Cherokees. The Jeeps made by AMC used the Renix computer system. This system uses a few more inputs than the later Mopar system and in some ways is more complex. The Renix system uses a knock sensor and is therefore capable of tuning the spark advance curve to an optimum mix. Some Renix controlled engines like the one in my son's XJ Wagoneeer will actually get better fuel economy using higher octane fuel. The fuel economy increase is enough to more than offset the extra cost of the higher octane fuel. You will have to experiment with your own engine to see if higher octane fuel will give better fuel economy and higher MPG. For most engines, the 87 octane fuel will give the best fuel economy.

Also, note that there is a huge difference in fuel qualities from various distributors. Ethanol content lowers MPG as well as many other additives. Again you will have to experiment with fuel form various distributors in your area to see which one offers the best fuel for the highest MPG. In my area it is the Shell station that offers the best fuel economy when comparing fuel cost to MPG.

The ignition timing of the XJ Cherokee is not adjustable. The ECU controls these functions on a set table and feedback from the knock sensor if equipped. However it is possible to trick the ECU into advancing the timing by adjusting the mounting points of the Crank Shaft Position sensor. By simply slotting the holes, the sensor can be repositioned to adjust the actual ignition timing. Due to the extreme difficulty of accessing he mounting bolts of the CPS and the minor improvement in fuel economy, this modification made not be worth the effort. Adjustable CPS sensors are available from some Jeep accessory vendors.

One of the biggest factors that effects the MPG of a Jeep Cherokee is it transmission. While the Asin four speed automatic is very durable and features a lock up torque converter, it simply cannot match the fuel economy of the five speed manual transmission. If you are choosing a Jeep for fuel economy, choose one with a five speed manual transmission.

Also, note that if you have a 242 transfer case also know as selec trac, you have the option of full time four wheel drive. Don't use it unless the road is slippery. You will get the best MPG by using two wheel drive.

While a disconnect front axle was offered on some Cherokees, on many XJs the front drive shaft is always coupled to the drive axle. On the non disconnect axle vehicles, you can improve the fuel economy by removing the front drive shaft. Just remember that you will have to put it back before you can use four wheel drive.

Tires make a big effect on MPG. While fitting a Jeep with larger tires is common, there can be a huge negative effect on fuel economy. Larger tires are usually wider and have a more aggressive tread pattern than the smaller street tires that originally came on the XJ. Using a set of narrow, low rolling resistance tires can help MPG in street driving. On one Jeep Cherokee I own there was a noticeable increase in fuel economy when I temporarily fitted a set of OEM sized tires. For best fuel economy, you may wish to consider having a set of street tires and set of off road tires.

No matter what tires you run, you will need to pay close attention the tire pressure. Generally speaking, the higher the tire pressure, the better the fuel economy. You will have to adjust the air pressure in your Jeep by balancing the factors of tire wear, ride comfort and traction. Always keep your tires properly inflated and air back up before driving on pavement after your off road adventures.

Another big factor for MPG is wind drag. Even the factory roof rack makes a noticeable difference in fuel economy. To maximize fuel economy, remove and roof racks or other roof mounted accessories.

When lifting a Cherokee, it is common to remove the factory air dam. However, this little piece of rubber does improve fuel economy. Keep it in place and straight for best MPG. Also the rubber mat under the engine helps to improve air flow under the XJ for a slight improvement in fuel economy.

Another common modification that reduces fuel economy is armor and protection accessories. Your bumper guards and skid plates and rock trails add weight and in some cases disturb the air flow. Consider the effects on fuel economy when making these modifications.

Proper wheel alignment will increase MPG as well. The front tires need to be pointed as close to straight ahead as possible. Set the toe in as close to zero as possible. The inverted Y steering arrangement of the XJ causes the toe to change with ride height so to maximize the fuel economy, set the toe with the Jeep loaded as you normally drive it.

Possibly the largest single factor effecting fuel economy is your driving style. To maximize MPG, start off slowly and maintain a steady speed. Avoid unnecessary stops. Keep moving as much as possible even at a very slow speed in stop and go traffic. Try to anticipate hills and accelerate before gong up the hill. Let you speed drop naturally hill climbing the hill. Avoid long idle times especially with the AC on.

One questionable area of increasing fuel economy that I have had mixed results with is fuel additives. Many people have reported that adding a small amount of acetone to the fuel will increase the MPG. I have not noticed any measurable increase from adding acetone. However, occasional use seems to prevent stumble and misfires so it seems that it would increase MPG. Try it by adding one ounce of pure acetone for each ten gallons of fuel.

Another additive that seems to help cure fuel supply problems is Seafoam. Seafoam smells like an alcohol blend and probably helps mostly to remove moisture from the fuel system. However, I have found a variety of fuel related issues form clogged or sticking injectors to carbon fouling of the combustion chambers seems to be helped by adding a can of Seafoam to the gas tank.

Oil choice and oil additives can also be used to increase MPG. However the long term effects on the engine need to be considered when choosing oil. Using lower viscosity oil can help increase MPG. However older engines may not lubricate well on low viscosity oils. An additive like Friction Free 3000 has been shown to increase MPG by reducing internal friction in the engine. Give it a try in you engine to see how it works for you.

Always use high quality oil in your Jeep Engine. The design of the 4.0 block causes some parts of the block to be very hot and will cause wax or paraffin based oils to separate. Wax based oils will need to be changed more frequently due to thermal breakdown.

Keeping your Jeep well lubricated in other areas will also help boost MPG. Check differential fluids, transfer case fluid and the transmission fluid on a regular basis to maintain proper lubrication and reduce drag. Locker and limited slip differentials may need to be check more frequently tan the factory recommended intervals. Also, if there is any chance that water has entered these parts due to off road adventures, change the fluid as the water and grease mixture has poor lubricating quality.

Through proper maintenance and a being aware of the effects of common modifications, you can maintain reasonable fuel economy in your Jeep SUV. Higher gas prices do not have to mean the end of your four wheel fun. It may even make some modifications like a second set of tires more economically viable. So pay attention to details and enjoy driving your Jeep Cherokee.

ADA Compliant Commercial Elevators

By Jai Gaitonde

Commercial elevators that have the features and safety standards specified by Americans with Disability Act (ADA) are referred to as ADA compliant commercial elevators. The law is enforced by the United States Department of Justice and defines the codes and specifications for all types of commercial elevators including stair lifts. This law was created for the comfort of physically disabled people and is mandatory for all types of commercial buildings. Most elevator manufacturers have now revised their elevator specifications to meet the standards of ADA.

Standard Features Required by ADA

ADA compliant elevators need to be automatic and the elevator car should have self-leveling features. For hall call buttons certain standards are specified; all lanterns, raised and Braille characters should be provided for the convenience of blind people. Reopening and door protection devices, door and signal timing for hall calls, floor plan of elevator calls, switch control for lights, indicator to know the position of the car, door delay for car calls, provision for communication during emergency are some other standards. In addition to that elevators should be on an accessible route and follow 4.10 and the ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.

Exemptions in the ADA Standard

As per the act, elevator exemption is given for buildings having less than 3 stories, or those having less than 3000 square feet per storey. However, for such business buildings, installing low cost elevators will be a great service they can provide for their customers.

Best Companion for Your Clients

As ADA compliant commercial elevators are provided with all required features and safety measures, they are ideal for regular day to day use. These elevators are affordable for small and medium enterprises including schools, lodges, hospitals and other commercial buildings.

Established companies including Savaria Concord, ThyssenKrupp Access and Federal Elevator provide different models of ADA compliant commercial elevators. These dealers provide all assistance for quality installation and maintenance of the elevators. On analyzing the features of ADA compliant commercial elevators, it is evident that they are the best suited models for modern commercial needs.

DAY Elevator & Lift is a leading supplier of ADA compliant commercial elevators manufactured by top companies. Commercial LULA elevators, or Limited Use Limited Access elevators, are of great utility value in commercial facilities where there is no existing vertical transportation.

Bugging Out With a Battery Booster Pack

By Joseph Parish Platinum Quality Author

One of the most useful devices that I have chanced upon has been the battery booster packs. This is an ideal item for any survivalist to keep in their bug out vehicle. The power packages can be readily purchased through any of the department stores such as Wal-Mart's or from just about any auto parts supplier. I found an exceptionally good one online at all-cordless. This unit it not only a battery booster pack but also a compressor and an emergency work light.

These units are simple in design as they consist of a 12 volt gel cell battery plus a couple of heavy duty 400 amp cables and rubber insulated clamps. These are extremely useful items as the batteries they have are powerful enough with its 400 amps to actually jump start a vehicle when its starting battery is totally dead. Its peek power rating is approximately 900 Amps. There is AC adapter which comes with it for charging the boost battery as well as a 12 volt cord for charging it from your car as you drive.

The compressor portion has an inflation rating of 260 psi which is more then adequate for most applications.

Additional features of this unit include a 12v DC output socket complete with an overload protection system, a charging level and battery condition indicator all contained in a 14 inch x 13 in box which weighs only 16 Lbs. The booster pack will operate a small lamp for several hours without dimming. The booster pack has a light on the front of the case to provide illumination to your work area as you complete your task.

The price of this unit is much more reasonable then most as it merely costs around $60.00 and well worth it. Another excellent place to purchase these types of booster packs is through Harbor Freight. They have similar units for around fifty dollars with a battery and the cigarette lighter socket as well as the necessary cables and clamps.

Of course these units will need to be recharged after use and most come equipped with an ac adapter as well as the 12 volt DC plug to charge them while driving.

A License to Thrill - Collecting James Bond Toys

By Mark Hazard Platinum Quality Author

For the true collector, the thrill is more than just acquisition; it's also in the chase. Collectors are rarely in it for the money; it's the excitement of finding the rarest, most obscure things that makes being part of the collecting hobby so much fun. Exchanging notes and showing off your collection to other fans is another big part of the fun; collecting can be like joining a secret club with members all over the world, exchanging tips on finding, restoring and displaying their collections. But of the many kinds of collectors in the world today (and there are collectors of everything from beer cans to rare stamps), probably the most determined treasure seekers of all are toy collectors.

And nobody, but NOBODY, has cooler toys than James Bond.

Since he exploded onto the movie screen in 1965, the suave superspy has been a front-runner in the toy world. And it makes sense; what other character in film and fiction has an entire secret division of the British Government busy making him ever more amazing gadgets? In his every incarnation, James Bond has had the coolest gadgets, the sleekest vehicles and the most deadly foes-all perfect to be translated into toys for the want to be spy-and the determined collector. James Bond toys cover a span of nearly fifty years, with each new movie generating its own variations for the determined Bonda-holic to collect.

Hobbyists collect James Bond toys for a wide variety of reasons. Some want to recover a lost favorite-the Bond toys were among the most popular boy's action lines of the early 1960s. Many are fascinated by the clever vehicles the spy has employed over the years, and collect die cast cars exclusively. Others fix their sights on a particular area-Bond weapons and secret gadgets for example, or Bond games. Still others collect Bond toys as part of a larger Bond collection; there are even a few Bond toys in "spy" museums in both the United States and the United Kingdom. No matter what part of the James Bond legend excites your collecting interest; there are plenty of great items to go around.

The Original Action (Figure) Hero

A.C. Gilberts James Bond Action Figure with spring-activated gun-firing action and their matching Oddjob figure with spring-activated throwing action started this category off with a bang (literally). Later incarnations in the action figure department included Action Man (GI Joe's British cousin) starring as 007 in several incarnations, as well as 8" versions by Mego and Exclusive Premiere's later six and a half inch versions. Collecting them all can be quite a challenge-the AC Gilbert toys are over 40 years old and many have simply fallen apart with age-finding one with its "shooting action" mechanism and firing cap gun is nearly impossible. And while Exclusive's line is still readily available, locating all of the "Bond Girl" figures to complete a full run can keep a collector busy for quite a while.

No Ordinary Car

Of course, the most prized bit of Bond-ailia had to be the superspy's trademark Aston Martin. The Aston has appeared as a battery operated car with bump-n-go action, two model kits, and even as an HO scale racer. But most collectors remember the original diecast cars from Matchbox and Corgi; detailed gems with real working ejector seats, pop out guns and rubber tyres. Over the years, dozens of manufacturers have made entries into the Bond motor pool, not only reproducing old favorites like the Aston, but also all the many other cars, planes, boats, submarines, mini-jets, rocket packs, helicopters, motorcycles and even spaceships that have appeared in Bond's film adventures.

Weapons, Mister Bond, Weapons

In 1965, it was the toy every red blooded boy wanted-(I had one and instantly became the envy of my neighborhood). A realistic black briefcase packing a sleek shell firing Beretta handgun, silencer, stock and scope-plus secret hidden daggers, 007 passport and code-o-matic decryptor, this is the ultimate prize for a Bond toy collector, and can set you back anywhere from $6-800.00 But what if the briefcase too big for your mission? For the subtle spy, American Character brought us the James Bond Vapor Paper & Action pen. With vanishing paper, projectile firing pen, a secret whistle and a built in booby trap to boot. While spy gadgets are no longer as big a part of modern day Bond offerings, you can't really consider yourself a true Bond collector if you don't have at least one of these.

Your Mission, Agent Double-Oh-Collector

If you're thinking of starting a collection with wide opportunities for expansion, James Bond may be the secret agent you're looking for. Starting with readily available die cast cars (like Johnny Lightning's recent version of the Aston) is an inexpensive way to begin. But be warned, just like every Bond mission, the stakes may mount up, as you discover the many games, action figures, secret gadgets and incredibly cool vehicles that you can add to your collection. Because collecting James Bond is a guaranteed license-to thrill.

Making a Motor Home Grounding Device

By Lance Winslow Platinum Quality Author

Do you own a motor home? Have you noticed that there is often a “buzz” in the air from all the on-board appliances and electricity? You may want to build yourself a simple grounding device. Something you can secure quickly and protect your motor home from electrical fire and also get rid of the buzzing sounds, which are barely audible, but you can feel them.

Grounding you motor home is a smart thing to do, as it will improve the life of your AC appliances, such as Televisions, microwaves and computers. But it will also improve your ability to sleep at night and make your motor home safe from fires.

Building a grounding device is not hard and it is important. I recommend that you buy a non-stainless steel, steel spike which has an eye hook on top of it. The Spike should be about 8-10 inches long. Then get some steel cable about six feet of it. Attach the cable to the eyehook on the steel spike and tighten it so it cannot move, meaning it will maintain contact.

Next connect the other end to the frame of your motor home by drilling a hole in one of the side storage boxes. Find the nearest hole in the frame, which is not being used. Get an appropriate sized bolt, four fender washers, one nut, one lock nut, one lock washer. Thread the cable thru the hole in the storage box and then sand the frame down to the metal. Next tighten the cable onto the frame as tight as you can double bolted with the lock nut on last. Divide up the fender washers on each side and the lock washer on the threaded side of the bolt before the nuts.

Now using silicon caulking compound to keep water from seeping thru the box where the cable goes thru. Lastly you may need to cut a slot the exact dimensions of the cable along the bottom of the door on your storage box so you can allow the grounding system to be deployed while still locking the storage box. Your grounding cable system will remain in your storage box until needed. To use, open the box press the cable in the grove slot you cut on your storage box and use a hard rubber mallet to pound it into the ground, to make your grounding. This should work fine and you will be glad you did. Think on this.

How to Clean Car Mildew Stains

By Eddie Paoletti Platinum Quality Author

Did you leave your car windows open overnight or during a rainstorm? Well, this can lead to mildew which is not a great smell to have inside your car. In order to prevent this from staying dirty, you should clean it up by following the directions below.

Start by trying to find the source of odor inside your car. Check all the rugs, upholstery, and air conditioning vents for signs of mold or moisture. Then, once you find the area dry it completely with a dry towel. Using a hairdryer after the towel will soak up even more of the moisture to get rid of the smell.

Next, remove the floor mats and lay them out in the sun for a few days if the weather is nice and if they are a source of the odor in your car. You should then sprinkle baking soda over the floor and upholstery of the affected areas. Then, work it into the rugs with your hands. Let the baking soda sit overnight, if possible, and then vacuum in the morning. You should clean the air conditioner vents with a cotton swab dipped in some window cleaner. If you still smell mildew in your air conditioning system, run the heater full-blast for ten minutes to dry it out. Make sure you leave the windows open during this process.

If all else fails, you should take your car to be professional interior cleaned. Once you have follow the above steps, your car should have no mold or mildew inside. You should be able to drive it again and not worry about any smell.

Enhancing Your BMW Or MINI With Carbon Fibre Parts

By Chris Robertson Platinum Quality Author

Every once in a while a material comes along that both captures the imagination due to its looks and aesthetics, and also provides tangible benefits in performance and functionality. Carbon fiber is once such material. It has that space age, advanced technology look that is extremely elegant. Yet, it is also stronger than plastic and lighter than steel. BMW and BMW Mini enthusiasts around the globe appreciate carbon fiber parts and cannot get enough of them.

What exactly is carbon fiber (or carbon fibre, as the British say)? It all started with the extremely thin graphite fiber whose carbon molecules form crystals that are in line with the fiber. That orientation makes the fiber extremely strong. Individual fibers are then combined into yarn, and the yarn is used to weave the carbon fiber fabric that gives carbon fiber parts their characteristic look and texture. The fabric is then combined with plastic resins to create composite parts that weigh very little but are very strong. This, plus their trademark good looks, make them perfect for automotive parts such as body kits, hoods, spoilers, side mirrors and so on.

Why use carbon fiber parts in your BMW or Mini? For the same reason that automobile enthusiasts all over the world customize and modify their cars. We like to make a statement and personalize our vehicles. If cool, elegant looks also contribute to performance, like lowered weight and better aerodynamics, that's even better. Carbon fiber delivers in every respect. And, in addition to greater strength, carbon fiber has another huge advantage over fiberglass: there is no need to paint it. Carbon fiber has its own look and texture, so there is no additional expense of painting and matching color.

What can carbon fiber be used for in your BMW or Mini? Almost everything. Some people think carbon fiber is primarily for hoods or body kits and it certainly is a great material for those, but it doesn't end there. You can also get carbon fiber door sills, headlamp trim, grilles, door handles, kick panels, intake covers, mirror covers, side mirrors, front splitters, handbrake levers, steering wheel trim, arm rests, and just about anything else you can think of. And most of those parts are available for the whole lineup of the older and current BMW and Mini platforms, including the 3-Series E36, E46, E90; the E60 and E61 5-Series and E63/64 6-Series, as well as the high performance M3, M5 and M6 cars, and the AC Schnitzer models. On the MINI side, a wealth of carbon fiber parts are available for the first gen R53 and the current R56 Cooper and Cooper S platforms.

What if a part is not available or someone is interested in starting his or her own carbon fiber distribution business? Well, there are manufacturers specializing in automotive carbon fiber parts and they can create just about anything in carbon fiber, sometimes even in different color fiber (red carbon fiber can look VERY attractive). So if you can't find a special carbon part for your BMW or BMW MINI anywhere, perhaps it can be made for you.

Austin Steam Train

By Ki Gray and Dane Smith Platinum Quality Author

One of the most unique and interesting attractions in and around the capitol city are the different excursions offered by the Austin Steam Train Association. With vintage engines and passenger cars, riders are transported to a different time and place, enjoying three levels of travel style - coach class, excursion class, and first class. A holiday favorite, the Austin Steam Train is a wonderful way to experience the slower, relaxing pace of train travel while enjoying the beauty of the Hill Country.

Those opting for coach class will experience a passenger car constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad in the 1920s. Refurbished by ASTA volunteers, these lovingly restored relics went back into service in 1992, with one car having been converted into a concession car, where snacks and souvenirs are offered. Although these cars do not have air conditioning or heating, they have functional windows, allowing the breeze to cool riders naturally. Each car seats 72 passengers, and both are accessible to those with disabilities.

Excursion class passengers will find themselves in either the Buckeye Lake or the Buckeye Trail car. With two reupholstered reclining passenger seats on either side of the aisle, both cars have heating and air conditioning, making them perfect for year round travel. Built in 1949 for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, the Buckeye Lake originally operated on daily runs between New York and Buffalo, and it now operates on every Hill Country excursion train. The Buckeye Trail was built for the New York, Chicago and St. Louis (Nickel Plate) Railroad, and is similarly equipped.

First class travelers will enjoy their choice between two Pullman-Standard cars, circa 1950. The sleek mid-century luxury cars include a number of two-person compartments, crew dorm room, a kitchen and lounge areas, and both offer heating and air conditioning. The lounge area seats 24 at two-person and four-person tables, and the compartments may be joined for larger groups by opening a partition. The Eagle Cliff, built in 1948, features the original built-in magazine tables (with original lamps) and lounge-area details based on the original design. Two illuminated photographic murals in the lounge depict the Alamo and a monument dedicated to the Mexican hero Morales.

Popular tours include the day long Hill Country Flyer, which after a scenic trip from Cedar Park, drops passengers off in the quaint town of Burnet for lunch and shopping. The Bertram Flyer is a three hour round trip tour of the area, but stops for a brief look at the historic 1912 train station in Bertram. Their holiday offerings include the North Pole Flyer - an annual event in December with appearances by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus who lead families in carols, serve hot cocoa and cookies, and pass out commemorative gifts. Another yearly favorite is the New Year's Eve celebration trip, as well as the Halloween Murder Mystery trip, and the separate Halloween trip tailored for kids.

A wholesome throwback to another, more simple time, the Austin Steam Train is a wonderful way for families to experience the beauty of the Texas Hill Country.

Hybrid Fuel Cars - Why They'll Save You on Maintenance Costs

By Joseph Then Platinum Quality Author

Many people who are in the market for a new car are beginning to take a close look at hybrid fuel cars. While one of the main reasons is that they can save so much on gas prices, there are other reasons as well. Not only will hybrid fuel cars help you save at the pump, but they will also help you save on the costs of maintenance as well. Many people find it frustrating to deal with maintenance and car repairs, so having a vehicle that will save on that frustration as well as the costs is a definite plus. The following are just a few ways that a hybrid vehicle can save you on the cost of maintenance.

Fewer Parts to Worry About One of the big ways that you can save money when you purchase hybrid fuel cars is by saving on maintenance and since these cars have fewer parts to worry about this will help you save. Since the cars have few parts, that means that you’ll have less maintenance to worry about and that you will spend less money trying to maintain the vehicle over a period of time.

A Smaller Engine Another reason that hybrid fuel cars will save you on maintenance costs is because they boast an engine that is smaller than the engine in traditional cars. These engines are usually somewhere between 10 and 20 horsepower and they are also designed to be more efficient as well. There is also a generator in the vehicle that runs on a gas powered motor that is separate, which also helps to contribute to the benefit of not having to deal with much maintenance.

Air Conditioning is Electric Believe it or not, when it comes to hybrid fuel cars, the air conditioning in the vehicle is also electric as well, instead of running on gas. This means that you don’t have to worry about all the maintenance problems that can come with a gas powered air conditioning system.

No Valve System Adjustments While many traditional cars have to have the valve system adjusted from time to time and the injectors cleaned, hybrid fuel cars are different. You’ll never have to worry about having to have the valve system adjusted of the injectors cleaned when you have a hybrid car.

Longer Warranties Offered Of course one of the main things that will help you save on maintenance with hybrid fuel cars, are the long warranties that are offered with the cars. They offer long warranties that actually cover the battery as well, which is an added bonus.

If you want to purchase a new vehicle that won’t have you spending a huge amount of money on maintenance, then you’ll definitely want to consider hybrid fuel cars. They not only will help you save on maintenance costs, but you’ll also save on fuel and help save the environment at the same time.

Questions For Purchasing Used Cars

By Gary Pearson Platinum Quality Author

Buying a car can be a painful or joyful experience. When a used car buyer meanders on to a car lot or web site and simply picks out what they like, asks the price, and buys the car....they are usually going to find a painful experience follows. The buyer armed with knowledge and prepared questions for purchasing used cars, will generally ensure they get exactly what they want, at exactly the price they want it.

Before you begin, you should be prepared to know the market value of used cars. The best way to know this is by using "Kelly's Blue Book." It will give you a guideline on if a car is overpriced and help you determine some of the questions for purchasing used cars. Also, you should have a set budget on what your price range is.

Now you are prepared to start shopping. There are plenty of questions for purchasing used cars. Your individual situation may add some questions to this list, but here are some basics:

1. Is this a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle? CPO's are dealer certified to be, "good as new."

2. How much are you asking for the vehicle? The wording is key here. Be sure to say, "asking" or "wanting." Those terms signal that you know the price is negotiable for buying a used vehicle . This is where your Blue Book comes in handy! In the flip of a page, you will know if the car is priced fairly.

3. How many miles are on the vehicle and what year is it? Divide the total mileage by age of the car and you will know how many miles per year has been put on the car. The average person puts between 10,000 and 15,000 miles per year on their vehicle.

4. What is the history of the vehicle and do you have the service records on it? You may have to be specific and ask: how many owners, has it ever had body work or been wrecked, has it ever had any internal or part repairs, why did the owner sell it, have the air bags ever been deployed, etc..? A seller is not going to divulge information, if you don't ask.

5. How many miles per gallon does the vehicle get and is the vehicle diesel or gas? This can be especially important if you are changing from a car to SUV.

6. What features does the car have and are all of them working to specifications? This question will tell you if the vehicle has any of the extra amenities like- airbags, air conditioning, CD player, DVD player, GPS, etc.

7. Is the vehicle under warranty and is there an extended warranty option?

8. Can I test drive the vehicle and bring it to my personal mechanic? Answers to the mechanical questions you ask when buying a used vehicle should be validated by a professional.

9. What are the typical insurance rates for this make and model?

10. Have there been any manufactory recalls on this vehicle?

Lastly, questions for purchasing used cars should be asked with confidence. Do not let a seller evade the questions. Don't worry about offending the seller, worry about offending your pocketbook. You have the right to know what it is you are buying and if it is something that you will be happy owning. The only way to know is to ask.

Need an Eye on Your Trailer - Time to Get VisionStat Portable

By Irina Tischenko

Do you know that there are billions of dollars in personal and business cargo stolen each year? To be more exact, companies lose as much as $20 billion of equipment to thieves yearly. An effective thief can steal a $100,000 of goods in a matter of minutes. In the time it takes to stop into a convenience store or to grab a bite to eat, your trailer contents could be stolen.

One approach is to make use of GPS technology, but because they have to be installed inside the vehicle and/or trailer and require a monthly service fee to track a stolen vehicle, they are cost prohibitive. It also assumes that the trailer will be stolen with the contents, in which case the GPS unit has to be located on the trailer. More often, the contents are stolen while the owner has his eye off the trailer. What you may need is something that is both practical (swift tow hitch camera) and discreet (wireless camera monitor) combined into one device. We are talking about a swift hitching trailer camera called VisionStat Portable.

Defining VisionStat Portable

VisionStat Portable is unlike an ordinary security camera that is permanently attached to your truck. It is composed of a battery operated, rechargeable wireless monitor and a wireless camera, which allows it to do many things. One of the main purposes is to allow you to easily and swiftly hitch up your trailer. Whether it is your own trailer or one that is rented, the system is completely portable so it goes with you. Plus the VisionStat Portable not only acts as a swift hitch for your tow vehicle, it can also help you monitor the contents of your truck or trailer. Instead of hoping that your trailer is secure, you can monitor it in real time for anyone who happens to prowl around your vehicle. Thieves don't just appear suddenly, they often follow you to determine the best possible places to steal the goods once the vehicle is parked and unattended.

There are a lot of excellent features that you can look forward to with the VisionStat Portable:

1. You can use it on any type of vehicle. The quick hitching capabilities can be utilized whether you're driving an RV vehicle, motor home, horse trailer or camper, to name a few. This means that one individual can more easily and swiftly hitch the towing vehicle to the vehicle-in-tow without the aid of a second person.

2. Its easily installed. The problem with other camera hitches is that they need to be wired into your vehicle, which may mean spending a lot of time setting them up. What's more, they may need more maintenance. With the VisionStat Portable, however, all you need to do is to mount it using its magnetic base. Since the monitor and the camera are both wireless, they can be recharged just by using the power adapter in your vehicle. The VisionStat Portable also includes an AC adapter, which you can use to recharge inside a building every time you're done using it. Plus it has an interface connector cable to use with a larger video monitor that may already be installed in the towing vehicle.

3. It includes a night vision camera. It's certainly likely that you will be traveling at night time or when there is just not enough light to see clearly such at dusk or in a garage. VisionStat Portable has night vision capability, which means you can clearly see an image even in complete darkness.

4. The camera enclosure is made of aluminum. Just in case you're wondering if it's rugged, well the answer is yes. The camera housing is not plastic like some low end products, this ones made of metal to protect the camera lens and night vision LED's. If these reasons aren't enough for you to use VisionStat Portable, then perhaps the fact that it comes from Mobile Awareness will. They specialize in designing and marketing transportation safety products including the SenseStat Obstacle Detection Sensor System and TireStat Tire Pressure Monitoring System family of products.

Are you carrying goods that are truly valuable? Are you concerned that the goods may be at risk for theft? Then it's high time that you increase your security options and get a VisionStat Portable to keep in your glove box. This dependable, multi-use rapid hitch transportable video camera system can easily be mounted on the back of your vehicle, allowing you a means to not only conveniently hitch your trailer.

Replacing a Stock Radio in a Ford Taurus 2002 SEL

By Mark Berger Platinum Quality Author

So my friend and I are somewhat into car audio/visual (it's a lot of fun) and decided to change out my stock Ford radio for an aftermarket one.

We didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into until we got out the old deck. The 'ol junker (well not really a junker, since it's an EATC temperature control module coupled with a CD player) was one big circuit board. This thing looked so out-of-date that man could have went to the moon with it (produced in 1974).

We got the deck out, bought an aftermarket dash kit from the local car audio dealer, and connected the new deck. THAT part was easy - but wiring the EATC back up (electronic automatic temperature control) was worse then sticking yourself in the eye with a hot poker.

Here's a tip to anyone who wants to replace their stock car radios - NEVER cut the wiring harnesses. That being said, finding another wiring harness for the beast that actually works has been almost impossible. None of the wiring diagrams off any website were of merit - and Ford has none themselves that could be of help to us.

On top of that, the aftermarket dash kit we bought didn't have any knobs - they expected us to supply ones from the last heating system - and nothing to plug the knobs into. We could order the knobs - $12 each - order the switches - etc. The wiring harness was $80, the switches were around $100 for all three...so the total cost for fixing this heating system would be getting close to $500 when you incorporate the cost of the aftermarket dash kit as well.

I don't think I'll ever replace the stock radio in a Ford again. At least if I do, it would have to be a model that Ford RECOGNIZES and actually has help regarding the model. Buying replacement parts at Canadian Tire just dosen't cut it - they never work or fit - and when a Ford dealership can barely help you, you really wonder who can.

Long story short - with winter fast approaching we fused two wires together to turn the heat on for the winter. Simple solution. Likely when summer rolls around, we'll fuse a couple together to turn on the AC.

Only thing that bothers me is I can't turn the heat up or down. But it's on - so scrue it.

Under Dash Air Conditioning

By Ricky Lim Platinum Quality Author

One of the recent developments in the field of air conditioners is the invention of the under dash air conditioning technique. In this technique, they are mounted under the dash board of the automobile. The cooling effect from that angle is great and the effects can be felt in all parts of the vehicle.

This is available in the form of two major types or models. The first model is designed in such a way so that it can be fitted under the dash board of the car without the need of the removal of the glove box. This type of model is available in various modes, like heat and cool or cool only. This model comprises a high capacity coil and a chrome face. The evaporator fitted in this model is complete in all regards and is equipped with all the controls. The model also comprises a valve for the control of the heater along with mounting brackets. It also comes with instructions which are easy to follow.

The second unit of the under dash air conditioning which is available has certain characteristic features which double up as advantages. This second unit takes comparatively lesser space vertically under the dashboard. This is made possible by using thin rectangular louvers. This second unit or model is also available in the cool only and the heat and cool modes.

The evaporator is also complete and consists of all required controls along with the valve, which is needed for the regulation of the feat (also known as heater control valve). Extremely easy to follow instructions are also part of the package along with mounting brackets. The under dash air conditioners comes in variety of dimensions. The most commonly used dimensions being 16 inches wide, half an inch deep and high.

Triumph Stag Information

By Andy Webbed

Styled by Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Stag had Italian styling influence and was produced for eight years from 1970 to 1978. The classic new look of the four headlamps appearing on the grille and the newly composed front and back, was a design set to be seen on other Triumphs. A lot of the Stag was influenced by the Triumph 2000 saloon, and equipped wit a 3 litre V8 which later appeared in the Dolomite. The Stag came equipped with power assisted brakes, power steering and electric windows as standard. Starring in the famous James Bond film, Diamonds Are Forever, the Triumph Stag soon achieved an exclusive image, an image it needed to compete with the more expensive Mercedes 280SL. The maximum speed of just short of 110mph, the Stag could also go from 0-60mph in 9.3secs, making the Stag fast, stylish and exclusive. Its cheap price tag in comparison to other cars in the same market further aided the Stags marketability.

With its high quality styling the Triumph Stag received much praise on its release, but this praise was short lived once the car was sold through various car dealers, where there was a high number of new owners returning the car complaining of engine issues. The issues experienced by many new Stag owners were said to be due to the low quality of production, an issue not limited to this particular engine, but was common place in British Leyland products. Low spending power caused further variations to make little improvements to the Stag, never fully rectifying the issue of the troublesome engine. Equipped with a three speed automatic gear box, the Stag offer a manual option, although this was the only major option made available to Stag buyers, with the other options available being AC and a rack for luggage.

The troublesome engines of the Stag are now usually replaced by Ford or Rover engines by collectors today, although Triumph Stags with their original engine do tend to be worth a greater sum of money compared to the cars with newly fitted engines. The Triumph Stag is a very collectible classic, with many web sites and owners clubs set up across the United Kingdom.

What To Look For In An Auto Insurance Company

By John Hasson, Jr.

Since almost all the states require that you have auto insurance, the question should not be whether you want it, but what you want your policy to cover. Indeed there are many decisions, but they do not have to be difficult ones to make if you know what you are looking for. Once you know what you want, then it will be much easier to find a company that can give you that for the lowest price.

How To Decide What You Want

You must decide what all your personal needs are such as a teenager in the house who also drives, but needs to be covered as well. Then make sure the policy will cover everything on the list.

How Much Liability Coverage Should I Get?

You also must decide how much liability coverage you want (paying for damages that you cause to another person on the road). There are two parts to liability coverage: bodily injury and property damage to the other person. Since liability insurance is the main reason to get insured in the first place, it is strongly recommended that insurers insure themselves well above the minimum requirement of the state. It is a good idea, in this area, to go as high as you feel you can because if you are unable to pay all the damage costs, first your assets will probably go to help pay for it, then you will just be in mounds of debt. You could get lucky and maybe they would have insurance for the underinsured (you) and maybe their attorney wouldn't go after you, but don't count on it.

How Much Collision Coverage, If Any, Should I Get?

One should assess the value of one's car first before deciding on collision insurance. Is your car old anyway and on its last leg, or is it brand new? How much are you willing to pay out of pocket should anything happen? If your car was totaled, would you rather pay out of pocket and/or risk your insurance going up, or would you rather just buy a new car? You should only get collision coverage if you feel a need to keep your car and repairs from such an event would be much more than staying insured, thus requiring the help of your insurance. It is important to note that collision insurance will insure no matter who is at fault, generally.

What Other Types Of Coverage Should I Consider?

Comprehensive auto insurance means exactly that, it is all comprehensive (it includes just about everything else that could go wrong with your car). For example, if your AC broke, it could cover repairs for that, or if your car got stolen it would cover for that as well. It will also (typically) cover for extended medical expenses of anyone injured in the accident, salary lost during that time, and funeral expenses. That is the one thing about life, full of endless possibilities, so if any of these coverages are important to you, then you should get the comprehensive coverage plan.

Now, if you really want to protect yourself well you can also get insurance for the uninsured as well (or underinsurance for those who are underinsured). So, that basically means that your insurance will cover what they were supposed to cover, them being at fault, but because they have no insurance, you will get covered with no hassle. This is important to have if you are worried that someone will hit and run. If they are able to get away without your knowledge of their driver's license or anything, then there won't be much you will be able to do about it.

How High Should My Deductible Be? Your deductible is how much you must pay out of pocket before your insurance will help you. The higher your deductible, the lower your monthly payments (your premium). So, if you are not very accident prone, perhaps a high deductible would be good for you, as high as you feel that you could pay yourself. If you are still struggling with what you want your deductible to be, think of this scenario: You get in a fender bender by running into the friendly pole over by your gas station, and it is $500 to fix. Would you rather pay out of pocket? Or go through your insurance risking that your rates will increase. How about if it was $1000 to fix? Now how about $1500 to fix? Now $2000 to fix? The highest number you would want to pay out of pocket for should be your deductible.

How Can I Save Money On My Insurance Plan?

As talked about above, the higher the deductible, the lower your premiums, which can save you a bundle of money. That is a good way to save money and still be able to keep your good coverage. Even if you up your deductible to $500 dollars, your premium will be much less. If you are worried you will not have that extra $500 on hand when you need it, it is probably a good idea to keep it in your emergency savings in a high interest bearing account. In fact, keep your entire deductible in there, and then if you ever need it in a pinch, you will have it. It will save you tons of money in the long run.

Teens If you have teens that you need to cover, cover them with your insurance plan. Do not cover them separately, it will be much more expensive. Same thing with their cars. List their cars alongside yours.

Coverages

Another way to save, or -- not waste your money, is to be sure you are not overcompensating in your coverages. For example, if you already have good coverage in your health insurance to cover for your personal injuries no matter what the cause, then in an auto accident you would have coverage for your injuries already through your health insurance. Therefore, you would probably be ok just having the minimum requirement in your auto insurance for your own personal injuries. You would probably be surprised all that your home insurance would cover too, so be sure to look at the coverages you already have closely before making definite decisions.

Bulk Buy

Now, you may want to consider getting your auto insurance with the same company that you get your homeowners insurance with, or another insurance, because lots of times they will let you get your insurances for less if you purchase more than one through them. Always remember that if a company does not work out to your satisfaction, you can always change your policy or change companies altogether BEFORE it is time to renew your policy. You can change things any time you feel the need, you never need to wait.

How Can I Be More Certain That This Company Is A Good Company?

Customer Service is always an important aspect (of any company for that matter!), and a good one to test out! Think of a crazy or absurd question, then call their customer service and test it out! Or, any question for that matter! If you are on hold for an hour, then they probably do not provide good service.

Body shops are another good place to look. Managers there have to deal with auto insurances all the time. Ask them which are the best to work with! I am sure they would have some recommendations for you to make their lives easier! They would know which insurances try to get away with replacing parts with cheaper parts to save themselves money, and which would have parts replaced back to their original quality.

Word of mouth is always a good way to find good companies too, experiences from other people, whether on forums online or from friends. You can compare quotes online at http://www.foxquotes.com

Digital Multimeter for Automotive and Industrial Applications

By Jason Miller Platinum Quality Author

Digital multimeters have now become an essential tool for any mechanic or technician working with electronic equipment. Far more sophisticated than their analogue counterparts of the past, the digital multimeter has evolved into highly specialized device engineered for specific testing situations in both private and commercial arenas. Digital multimeters may be small, hand-held devices used to check electronic systems on automobiles, or they may appear as advanced bench instruments in manufacturing labs or industrial field applications. Red Hill Supply distributes digital multimeters by Fluke and carries the full spectrum of engineering designs for both commercial clients and individual end users.

As their name suggests, digital multimeters combine convenience with multifunction. A digital multimeter works by converting signal measurements into a digital display on an LED. This technology eliminates the parallax errors common in previous analog technology.

Today's DMM's utilize specialized test probes adapted specifically to the test subject. Red Hill Supply distributes Fluke digital multimeters that employee hook clips, pointed probes, and crocodile clips to accommodate the multiplicity of test surfaces today's technician encounters. Test probes connect to the unit through thickly insulated leads that ensure both accurate measurement and safe operation.

Any type of electrical troubleshooting or repair work normally requires a digital multimeter to pinpoint electrical problems and to provide various measurements of electrical phenomenon. Standard measurement settings for most digital multimeters include current (AMPS), voltage (VOLTS), and resistance (OHMS). In simple layman's terms, resistance refers to the ease of electrical flow, voltage references the amount of electrical flow, and amperage reflects the power of electricity itself. Additionally, a good digital multimeter will accurately measure both AC and DC devices. A car battery produces DC and requires adequate voltage for reliable operation. On the other hand, the vehicle alternator produces AC and may call for testing amperage as well as voltage. Any work on a vehicle's radio or stereo system requires testing resistance, as insufficient Ohms will cause a speaker to blow out. More advanced digital multimeters engineered for commercial and industrial projects offer additional test options measuring capacitance, frequency, circuit continuity, inductance, and even temperature.
